Citizen Science Project Seeking Volunteers

Posted on June 6, 2019July 15, 2019

Wascana & Upper Qu’Appelle Watersheds Association Taking Responsibility (WUQWATR) received a grant from Mosaic to team up with Dr. Kerri Finlay from the University of Regina and release a Water Rangers citizen science project for landowners within Central and Southern Saskatchewan. WUQWATR is seeking out lake enthusiasts who are interested in taking part in the Water Rangers water sampling project.

WUQWATR will train volunteers to conduct monthly water quality sampling throughout the year and compare results based on volunteer collections, with those collected by trained limnologists. Trained volunteers effectively collect samples for lake trophic status, toxins, total dissolved solids, and transparency. From this, conclusions about lake water quality from these samples can be formed.

Data from this project will be uploaded to the Water Rangers website. Water Rangers helps to build the tools for citizens and scientists to easily record and analyse water data so that they can use the data to learn about problems, share discoveries, and engage with their neighbours.

If this sounds like an interest, please contact General Manager Melissa Bramham at 306-946-6533 or melissa@wuqwatr.ca for more information.
